The First Sip

A picture of a dirty Kentucky coal miner attending a Kentucky basketball game made its rounds on social media this past week.

The man is seen sitting in the stands with his young son…

…still wearing his work uniform and covered in black coal dust from head to toe.

Apparently, the picture went viral enough for Kentucky men’s basketball coach John Calipari to see it.

“My family’s American dream started in a Clarksburg, WV coal mine, so this picture hits home,” Calipari wrote.

“From what I’ve been told, after his shift, he raced to be with his son & watch our team. Don’t know who this is, but I have tickets for him & his family at Rupp to be treated as VIPs!!”

Soon after posting, the man was identified as Michael McGuire.

When asked for more context on the picture, Michael told a local news station that he didn’t want to miss his son’s first basketball experience.

Despite waking up at 4:45 a.m. and working a full shift, he drove straight to the arena to meet his wife and son.

“I talked to my guys about it,” Calipari said.

“It’s just a great lesson, and I showed ‘em the picture yesterday of Michael and his son, and I talked about hard, backbreaking work that’s honorable work, but that he makes time for his son, even when he knew he couldn’t shower.”

“It didn’t matter what he looked like, he just wanted to be with his son.”

Small, sweet, healthy, and delicious…

Bananas are highly underrated.

In fact, they might be the best bedtime snack.

Loaded with potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, and fiber, bananas act as nature’s sleep aid.

Bananas are shown to reduce stress and anxiety, regulate your sleep-wake cycle, and alleviate muscle cramps.

Doctors even recommend them for folks with restless legs syndrome and other sleep disorders.

The potassium in bananas relaxes your muscles, while the magnesium regulates the adrenal glands and slows down brain waves.

The vitamin B6 converts amino acid to serotonin, which helps stimulate the secretion of melatonin (your body’s “sleep” hormone).

So if you’re looking for a late-night snack this week, consider reaching for a banana.

☕  TL;DR: Want to sleep better at night? Try this natural sleep aid.

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

Every advisor knows there’s a major wealth transfer happening over the next 10-15 years.

But it’s not just a generational one.

Did you know that by 2030, more than two-thirds of wealth in the U.S. will be held by women?

And here’s why that matters…

Currently, financial advisors are not doing an effective job of reaching wealthy women.

Despite the fact that women have grown their wealth 3X as fast as men over the past few years, advisors are still focused primarily on men.

According to a survey of Americans and Canaidians, women invest 22% less of their wealth in financial products compared to men.

The firm behind the study attributes this disparity to “a lack of segment-specific experiences, inadequately tailored enablement programs and mismatched products and services.”

In other words, we have to do a better job of pursuing female clients.

And here’s the most interesting part of it all: They’re even willing to pay more for your services!

65% of women who invest say they’re willing to pay a 20% premium for advice that’s tailored to them.

If you’re looking for a niche…I just gave you a million-dollar idea or play at BetVisa.

Go for it!

☕  TL;DR: Advisors are ignoring this niche, which is about to go BOOM!

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹 Go For a Hike. The Fed hiked short-term borrowing rates by 0.75 points, taking rates to the highest point since 2008. While rate increases are expected to continue, Chairman Powell says there are discussions about slowing the rate of increases in the near future.

🔹 Millennials Deviate. Yahoo says ‘rich young Americans’ are losing confidence in the stock market and are moving their money into 3 other assets: cryptocurrency, real estate, and private equity. This year’s bear market is one of the driving forces in the shift.

🔹 Payrolls Up. Despite aggressive monetary tightening by the Federal Reserve, the U.S. economy beat projections and grew employment by 261k in October. Unemployment increased to 3.7%.
