But first…when life gives you oranges…

Two decades ago, an orange 🍊  seller in Mangalore, India felt a twinge of embarrassment when he couldn’t tell a foregin tourist the price of the fruit he was selling.

He’d been selling oranges on the streets for years, but with no formal education, he couldn’t even answer a basic English question: “How much?”

“I was embarrassed that I could not tell the price of a fruit I had been selling for years,” Harekala recalls.

Not wanting any other children in his village to grow up and deal with the same experience, he began saving up his money.

Pretty soon, he had enough to buy a small 1-acre plot of land with a building.

And on that land, he built a school – the first in the entire village.

“I had never had the opportunity to access education, and I did not want the children in the village to suffer the same fate,” he shares.

The school now serves hundreds of students each year, with classes ranging from first grade all the way up to the tenth grade.

His sacrifice recently earned him a Padma Shri, which is the fourth-highest civilian award in India.

His next goal?

To build a University where students can acquire the skills to build their own businesses

…so that they, too, can give back to their tight-knit community!

1 Caffeinated Neurohack

According to McKinsey research, the average professional spends 28% of the workday inside their email inbox.

That means you’re probably spending over 2.5 hours on email every single day.

Ugh.

So what if you could cut your time in HALF and get back 20hrs a month?

Here’s one simple idea:

Think of sorting, reading, and answering emails as three separate activities.

You see, most people go back and forth between opening one email, then reading and responding to another, then placing another email in a folder to read later, etc.

All of this back-and-forth is draining.

Each time you shift, you’re losing mental energy and focus.

By focusing on one task at a time…

===>  Sorting emails for 15 minutes….

===>  Then reading emails for 15 minutes…

===>  And then responding to emails for 30 minutes…

Your productivity will soar.

☕  TL;DR: Treat email as 3 different tasks – sorting, reading, and answering – rather than one big task. You’ll be more productive.

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

Confidence is cyclical.

  • The more confidence you have, the more confidently you speak.

  • The more confidently you speak, the more strongly people feel about you.

  • And the more strongly people feel about you, the more confidence you gain.

As an advisor, you can bolster your confidence and appear more assertive in meetings by replacing “weak” words with “strong” words.

Linguists and psychologists suggest making these swaps:

Do NOT Say: “Does this make sense?”

Say Instead: “What are your thoughts?”

Do NOT Say: “Maybe we should try…”

Say Instead:  “Let’s try…”

Do NOT Say: “I just wanted to touch base…”

Say Instead:  “I wanted to touch base…”

Do NOT Say: “Sorry.” (When you didn’t do anything wrong.)

Say Instead:  “Excuse me.”

Do NOT Say: “I think this would…”

Say Instead:  “I believe this would…”

Sometimes a simple switch in vernacular is enough to change the way people see you. Details matter!

☕  TL;DR: Stop using these phrases that make you appear “weak” to prospects and clients.

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹 Billionaire pocket change. Elon Musk sold more than 3.5 million shares of Tesla this week (worth roughly $3.88 billion). But don’t be too concerned…he’s still got more than 166 million shares where that came from.

🔹 Inflation surge. The U.S. consumer price index ballooned 6.2% year-over-year since last October. That’s the highest surge since 1990. Here’s how Americans are coping.

🔹 Rate drops. The average interest rate for a 30-yr fixed-rate mortgage dropped to 3.16% causing a 7% increase in refinances from the previous week.
