The First Sip

When Caitlin Foster took her daughter Lacey to Smyths Toys in Ballymena, Ireland, she certainly wasn’t expecting this…

Armed with the £10 that the little girl’s grandmother had given her, the mother and daughter were looking to buy a small gift.

Lacey kept picking up toys that she liked, but they were all more than £10, so Caitlin encouraged her to keep looking.

“We were in the aisle and three of Smyth’s staff members came over,” Caitlin recalls.

The manager asked her if they could give her a £50 gift card that had been left at the store earlier that morning by a woman in memory of her late daughter who would have turned 4 that day.

I just started to cry, and then the workers were crying too. It was very emotional. They said they had been crying all morning since they found out about the card.”

Caitlin immediately posted a picture of her daughter with the gift card and toys that were purchased with it in hopes that the woman might see it.

“And all I can say is if Juno’s mummy is reading this, I just want to say a huge thank you,” the post read.

“She made my wee girl so happy and I am thinking about her and her family. It is very kind, what she has done, and it has inspired other people to do the same.”

I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but I like to finish things I start.

Sometimes this is a good trait to have. Other times it’s not.

One of the downsides to this mentality 👇

You’re hesitant to get started on a task because you know you won’t have time to finish it before moving onto the next item on your to-do list.

This creates a cycle of procrastination.

But can I give you a couple of words of wisdom?

Focus on doing the optimum amount, not the maximum amount.

In other words, just get started.

If you’re trying to write a 100-page book, don’t feel like you have to write it all in one week.

In fact, don’t even focus on writing 5 pages per day.

Instead, tell yourself you’re going to write 500 words in the next hour. And once that hour passes, move on to the next task.

Next time you return to writing the book (or whatever the task is), you’ll instantly feel more motivated because of the progress.

Productivity is a cycle. If you feed it the right inputs, you’ll get better outputs.

☕  TL;DR: Focus on doing the optimum amount, not the maximum.

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

You ever heard of the “Cheerleader Effect”?

It’s a psychological phenomenon that says people are more attractive when presented as part of a group than when they’re solo.

Why is this?

Well, it’s pretty simple…

Humans tend not to process every single detail of their environment. Instead, they latch onto the “big picture”.

The brain quickly summarizes all of the information in front of it.

So, when a guy sees a group of girls, he instantly finds each girl more attractive. He’s absorbing the entire environment.

Pretty interesting…

But what if I told you this same principle applies to marketing as an advisor?

If you’re going to share a testimonial on a page, don’t just share one. Share as many as you have…back to back to back.

If you offer a financial planning service, offer three different tiers (even if you know 80% of people will choose the middle tier).

Make your value more attractive by thinking like a cheerleader!

☕  TL;DR: Use the power of numbers to make your value more attractive.
