☕ Advisor Sunday Brew: Hidden traffic source for FAs

““Happiness is a direction, not a place.”

Hey Sunday Brewers!

Get ready to scroll for a simple technique to improve your ability to recall names of prospects (and clients)…

A creative way to turn your LinkedIn banner into a traffic source

And the latest on what’s happening in the financial markets this week…

But first, a story about my favorite kind of person – an action-taker.

The First Sip

When the pandemic struck, Leo Robinson didn’t waste any time jumping into action.

He saw needs in the community and rallied his congregation to meet them.

The first thing he knew to do was provide meals to families who had been relying on schools for food.

“So we started going into these areas to offer dinner and they were like, ‘Food is great, but we really need a place to do our laundry,’” Pastor Robinson recalls.

Come to find out…there wasn’t a single laundromat within a 4-mile radius around. And with 75% of people in the area relying on public transportation, he started doing the math…

By the time a family gathered their clothes, waited on the bus, went to the laundromat, waited two or three hours to do the laundry, and then came back on the same bus route…

…it was a full-day affair.

As a result, many families were going without clean laundry for weeks at a time.

This had been a problem for years, but none of the community leaders knew it until now.

It had gotten so bad that teachers said they were struggling with absenteeism due to kids feeling shame about their dirty clothes.

Some school counselors were even taking clothes home to wash them for students.

After learning all of this, Robinson quickly pivoted his plan.

Today, they’re in the process of building a FREE laundromat in the basement.

They currently have four washers and four dryers, but are looking to add a few more in the following weeks.

By the time they get up and running – hopefully by the end of this month – they’ll be able to serve 100+ families in the community.

Robinson is a great example of someone who takes massive action.

My challenge to you this week is to follow his lead.

Whether it’s in your business or personal life, let this be a week of massive action!

1 Caffeinated Neurohack

Brain coach Jim Kwik says, “It’s hard to show somebody you are going to care for their business if you don’t care enough just to remember their name.”

Unfortunately, I know a lot of advisors who really struggle with remembering names.

They meet someone at a networking event or run into an old connection around town and…poof!…the name slips.

Does it ever happen to you?

Well, here’s what I’ll tell you…

Remembering someone’s name isn’t an intelligence problem – it’s a focus problem.

By improving your focus and attaching names to mental signposts, you can get past this issue.

One way to do this is to focus on a particular feature of a person’s face – ideally the most distinguishing feature – and repeat their name at least three times in your head.

By connecting a name to a visual trait, you anchor it in your memory. When you try to recall the name, your brain will scan for this anchor.

Once found, this anchor makes it 2X as likely that you’ll remember the name.

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

Here’s a neat hack that you can use on your LinkedIn profile to drive targeted traffic to a landing page, email opt-in form, webinar…or any web page!

As you may know, LinkedIn banners do not allow for clickable links. But I’ve found a workaround that allows you to leverage your banner as a traffic source.

Check it out:

Step 1: Use Canva to design a new banner for your LinkedIn profile

Step 2: Find the “QR Code” generator tool in the sidebar

Step 3: Paste the link you want to use in the “URL” field

Step 4: Customize the QR code with the color/design you like

Step 5: Include a CTA on your banner and finalize

Your LinkedIn banner is basically a billboard. If you aren’t maximizing this digital real estate, you’re wasting an opportunity to get in front of prospects.

Give this a try and let me know what you think!

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹 Money in the bank. For one of the (few) positives in the marketplace, look no further than your savings account. While rates at large retail banks have hovered around 0.08% for a while, they’re now on the uptick. Some online-only banks are offering 1% savings rates (more than 12x the rate of most banks).

🔹 Boomers beware. A new report shows younger baby boomers are at risk of draining their 401k’s dry by the age of 85. Here are some thoughts on what this means for your clients.

🔹 Discounted gas? President BIden has called on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for 90 days so that gas stations can pass along the savings to customers. The current federal tax stands at 18 centers per gallon for regular gasoline, and 24 cents per gallon for diesel.
