And so MUCH more…

Walmart has a little bit of everything.

Need a pair of socks? They’ve got plenty.

Upgrading your laptop? You can find one there.

In search of some coolant for your car? There’s plenty.

And if you’re a puppy who happens to be strolling through the store at just the right time…

Well, you can find a misplaced human, too.

You see…It was about a month ago when Abby the dog went missing in the town of Dothan, Alabama.

June Rountree, the dog’s owner, spent days searching for the 4-year-old black-and-white pup…but came home empty handed each night.

But three weeks later…

Just when June was on the verge of giving up and moving on…

Abby came strolling into that Walmart.

Nobody is quite sure how she found her way there, but customers recall her wandering around the store, dodging shoppers, and searching for something.

Ends up it was June she was searching for.

And within several minutes, she comes strolling up to register No. 6 where she was working.

“I called her name and she came to me,” June recalls.

“I bent over and hugged her. I completely lost it then. I couldn’t speak. I was in complete shock and just couldn’t believe it.”

Just goes to show Walmart cash registers aren’t just for checking out

Sometimes they’re also for checking in! 😆

Stress is a totally normal bodily function.

It’s a reaction that occurs when change happens.

It’s designed to kick you into fight or flight mode so that you can avoid threats and find safety.

But while stress might be normal, prolonged bouts of intense stress are not.

The human body was never designed to withstand months or years of chronic stress.

As one doctor explains, “The brain starts shunting its resources because it’s in survival mode, not memory mode.”

In other words…bad news.

But according to one brand new research report, the best way to reduce stress and sooth a disheveled brain is to…

…go running!

I know, I know…

Probably not the ground-breaking tip you’re looking for, but you can’t argue with science.

The study’s authors conclude that running “actively mitigates the negative effects of chronic stress on the hippocampus.”

(If you’re not familiar with it, this is the part of the brain that’s responsible for both learning and memory.)

So when you run on a daily basis, you’re not only getting your blood flowing, but you’re also neutralizing the effect stress has on your brain.

☕  TL;DR: New report shows running is the best way to neutralize both the physical and mental side effects of chronic stress.

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

In a brand new study published in the Journal of Marketing, a group of researchers at Cornell University have made an interesting discovery.

They’ve found that, in the age of COVID-19 and digital interactions, people crave connections to places.

In other words, consumers are feeling more drawn to locally-sourced goods, handmade items, and products that remind them of specific places and groups.

Commercialization is OUT.

Authenticity is IN.

But here’s the kicker…

The people who express the highest need for “groundedness” tend to be consumers who…

Spend a lot of time on their computers

✅  Have a higher net worth

✅  Reside in big cities

Sound like anyone you know?

(If you’re like most advisors…these are people in your niche.)

So keep this in mind as you flesh out your marketing and prospecting strategy.

Find ways to lean in and make people feel grounded.

If you’re targeting people in Nashville, TN for example, really play up a local Nashville vibe.

If you’re running a generational practice, don’t be afraid to reach back into your history and articulate a family feel.

People want (and need) to feel grounded in times like these!

☕  TL;DR: Today’s consumers want to feel grounded. Be more authentic in your marketing.

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

It was a tough week on the international stage, but we’re here to let you know the world is still turning.

Keep your chin up and stay informed.

Here’s a small snapshot of what’s happening…

🔹 Bye-Bye benefits? Under the American Rescue Plan, federal unemployment benefits will expire on Sept 6.

But here’s one reason they could end even earlier.

Despite expiring benefits, officials say states can still use $350B of pandemic funds allocated in the plan to continue paying income support.

🔹 Hike! Minutes from this past week’s Federal Reserve meeting show a willingness to begin reducing asset purchases by the end of the year.

While officials stress there’s no connection between tapering purchases and potential interest rate hikes….others aren’t so sure.

🔹 Donut say it’s so.  The CEO of Krispy Kreme just announced it’s looking to take a price increase on donuts after inflation has driven up costs for key commodities like oil and sugar.

(This is why we can’t have nice things.)

On the bright side, here are 179 reasons you (maybe) shouldn’t worry about inflation.
