☕ Advisor Sunday Brew: Warning 🛑 my dog’s pic inside 🐶

Hey Sunday Brewers!

Here’s a sneak peak of what’s inside this issue:

  • A new study on the impact of pets on the mind 🧠
  • 3 hard-hitting data points on advisor opt-in forms 📊
  • The White House speaks out on crypto 💰

But first…a salute to all the puppy foster fams out there!

When a puppy named Maggie arrived in New York from Louisiana for adoption by her “forever family,” she came with a few extra papers.

In addition to adoption records and medical papers, there was a stack of handwritten letters by 6-year-old Roman Duncan.

Roman, whose family fostered the pitbull mix over the holidays, enjoyed his time with Maggie so much that he wanted to send some notes to her future family in NY.

One letter spelled out all of the reasons she’s “the best dog you could ask for.”

Another letter mentioned all of the things that Maggie loves to do.

I know we have folks in Shift Nation who foster puppies, and it’s incredibly important work

So I’d like to give a shout out to Roman and everyone else providing shelter and love for pups like Maggie!

Keep being a Force For Good!

Speaking of dogs…

A new study shows owning a pet is linked to slower cognitive decline over time.

“Prior studies have suggested that the human-animal bond may have health benefits like decreasing blood pressure and stress,” said the study’s author

“Our results suggest pet ownership may also be protective against cognitive decline.”

And while my opinion probably doesn’t qualify as scientific research, I’ll tell you one thing…

I always seem to be more relaxed yet focused when I have my pup, Yuki, by my side in my office.

If you’ve got a furry friend, why not let him make his home in your office? If nothing else, it’s going to bring a spark of joy to your day.

☕  TL;DR: Dogs lower your blood pressure and slow down cognitive decline – invite yours into your office!

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

Opt-in forms may be the most important element on a website or landing page.

If you can’t get someone to fill out a form and click that little button, nothing else matters.

Here are several research-backed tips for improving contact form conversions;

🔴 Avoid asking for a phone number in an opt-in form if possible. While you’d like to get one, 58% of people will not fill out a form if this info is required.

🔴 Forms that use the default word “Submit” see a 3% decrease in conversion rates, while “Click Here” (+30%), “Go” (+25%), and “Download” (+15%) perform much better.

🔴 In one study, red CTA buttons outperform green CTA buttons by 21%.

The key to successful marketing is testing.

Test these ideas out for yourself and look for the “sweet spot” within your own audience.

☕  TL;DR: When it comes to opt-in forms, success is in the details.

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹 The ‘Big Split’. For the first time since the dot-com boom, Amazon announced a stock split. Investors will receive 20 shares for each share they own. The company also announced plans to buy back as much as $10 billion worth of shares in a vote of self-confidence.

🔹 Under review. Crypto is getting its first big exam. President Biden has signed an executive order calling for the gov’t to examine the risks and benefits of cryptocurrency

In addition to examining six key areas (consumer protection, financial stability, illicit activity, U.S. competitiveness, financial inclusion, and responsible innovation), the Biden Administration will explore a digital version of the USD.

🔹 Standing together. In a rare feat of solidarity, U.S.consumers overwhelmingly support businesses cutting ties with Russia in light of current circumstances. Interestingly, the Gartner survey also found customers are tired of hearing companies tout their charitable actions. In other words, just do it. So no more selfies of being charitable? Yep.
