Pour a cup of your favorite brew and let’s get moving ☕️

As you and I know, starting a business is tough sledding.

There are lots of 12- and 15-hour days in the beginning…

Maybe even some sleepless nights here and there.

That first year is difficult, but somehow still rewarding.

So when Javier Folgar’s mom gifted him a very special scrapbook documenting his first 12 months in business…

Well, he was pretty emotional.

“Let me tell you, this scrapbook meant the world to me! Not only was it magnificently laid out, but it was also designed by my mother,” he explains.

And it’s that genuine appreciation for the scrapbook that makes what happened next all the more heartwarming.

A few weeks ago, Javier packed up his car and prepared to make the drive back home to Frederick, Maryland.

As he was packing, he temporarily placed the scrapbook on top of the car so that his luggage wouldn’t damage it.

Well…you can probably guess what happened next.

He drove off without remembering to put the scrapbook inside.

Javier never realized what he’d done.

Then, when checking his email during a stop at a gas station, he noticed a message from a woman he didn’t know.

“She said she found a scrapbook scattered across Valley Road,” he recalls.

“She wasn’t sure if it was mine, but she decided to reach out and give it a shot in case she could find the owner.”

Javier realized what a terrible mistake he’d made, but the kind Samaritan promised she’d bring them back to his parent’s house.

So she tracked down the scattered pages…

And within minutes, his mom got a knock on the door from the woman (Alyssa).

All but 5 of the pages were found.

But when Alyssa realized there were still missing pages, she set back out to look for the rest.

An hour later, there was another knock at the door. (This time it was Alyssa’s mother.)

“Apparently, she heard the story of how her daughter recovered a scrapbook from their busy road. She looked around and also found a page, and decided to bring it back to my parents.”

I wonder how many people drove by that street, saw the pictures and pages strewn across the pavement, and figured it was just trash.

But one kind woman and her mother took the time to see what it was and, in the process, were able to return a family treasure.

Sometimes we just need to slow down and look for opportunities to lend a helping hand.

As Javier says, “There truly is kindness around every corner.”

Do you experience any of the following?

👎 Trouble sleeping?

👎 Headaches?

👎 Brain fog?

👎 Lack of focus?

If so, the hours you spend staring at devices during the day isn’t helping.

And since cutting screen time isn’t always feasible (you’re a Virtual Financial Advisor™ after all)…

The next-best thing is to find a way to reduce the damaging effects of blue light exposure.

And according to the National Sleep Foundation, blue light glasses are the answer.

Brand new research shows they reduce digital eye-strain, headaches, and daytime fatigue.

Not only that, but they also lead to a better night’s sleep.

If you do decide to purchase a pair, make sure they’re designed to filter the entire spectrum of wavelengths (including 455nm blue light, which is the most damaging to human eyes).

☕  TL;DR: Wearing blue light glasses can reduce digital eye-strain and headaches during the workday (while also improving sleep quality.)

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

As advisors, we often spend a lot of time thinking about how we can cleverly push prospects through funnels and get them to schedule a “chat” or appointment.

And while there’s certainly a time and place for this…

Sometimes a prospect just needs you to tell them what to do.

There was actually a study conducted on this very topic several years ago.

A new medication was being released and the company gave out pamphlets.

One pamphlet discussed the dangerous side effects.

The other pamphlet discussed the dangerous side effects AND information about where to get it.

Patients who received the second pamphlet were 25% more likely to follow through

And the same is true with your webinar landing pages, emails, etc.

Whenever possible, use a clickable call-to-action button and tell people precisely what to do (e.g. “Register Now!”)

Research shows clickable CTA buttons increase conversions by up to 45%.

☕  TL;DR: Use more clickable CTAs in your marketing to tell prospects precisely what to do.

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹 Say it ain’t so. The Dow dropped 500 points on the final day of September, while the S&P 500 suffered its worst month since March 2020.

Reading between the lines, the fact that September was the worst month since the start of the pandemic says more about how strong the market has been over the past 18 months than anything else.

🔹 In the nick of time. The House passed a government funding bill with just hours to spare before a shutdown deadline. The current bill keeps the government funded through December 3.

🔹 Spooky season. One analyst warns the U.S. could be entering a prolonged era of high inflation that will produce paltry/negative returns on even the safest assets. Others say these fears are overblown.
