But first, here’s the most uplifting story I heard this week…

The First Sip

Several years ago, then 22-year-old Jimmy Amisial came back to his home in Haiti to visit his mom during a break from Texas State University.

“When I woke up that day, I was totally unaware that my life was about to change forever,” Jimmy said.

While walking to the orphanage where he used to volunteer as a child, he noticed a large group of people huddled around a large trash can

Jimmy shouldered his way through the crowd and couldn’t believe his eyes.

There was a 4-month-old baby inside.

“People were crowding ‘round this [trash] bin and I heard them arguing about what to do with this tiny baby,” said Jimmy. “Everyone was just staring at him—not a single soul wanted to help.”

Jimmy didn’t hesitate.

He scooped the baby up in his arms and brought him home to his mother, Elicie Jean.

They washed the baby, clothed him, and gave him some milk before taking him to a nearby doctor for medical help.

A full investigation was launched to find the parents, but they were never found.

The judge in the case called Jimmy into his chamber one day and asked him if he’d be interested in becoming the baby’s legal guardian

“I was already behind on my university fees and my family has always struggled to make ends meet,” he explained. “But I didn’t have a dad growing up, and this poor child was facing a lifetime of instability and uncertainty.”

Over the past several years, Jimmy has split time between the U.S. and Haiti – doing his best to continue his education while committing to raising the baby.

That baby, who they’ve since named Emilio, is now five years old.

Jimmy has applied to formally adopt him.

“Mom loves him, the kids in the orphanage love him, and I love him as if he were my own. He really is a special little boy.”

Raise your hand if you spend 8, 10, even 12+ hours at your desk on a daily basis.

While I respect the hustle, the truth is sitting for that long isn’t good for you.

I know because I used to do the same.

But I’m 100% “Team Standing Desk” now…

…and I don’t see myself ever going back.

Research shows…

⚡️  Individuals who stand at their desks are 45% more productive

🧠  People who use standing desks notice better moods & more energy

😊  Standing desk users experience 54% less upper back & neck pain

This is not an advertisement – I have no equity in standing desk companies! 🤣

Just a guy who’s seen how useful they are firsthand.

I’d challenge you to try one for yourself.

☕  TL;DR: Want to perform better during the week? Try a standing desk.

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

According to one study, headlines with numbers tend to generate 73% more social shares, conversions, and engagement.

In a separate study, 36% of readers say they prefer headlines with a number in it.

While I’m a big believer in taking plenty of time to research and write the best headlines, there’s a lesson to be learned from these studies…

When in doubt, use numbers, statistics, percentages, etc.

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹Nothing to see here. In an interesting move this week, the White House tried to explain that the U.S. economy is NOT in recession territory. This despite two straight quarters of declining GDP, which is the standard most economists use to define a recession. Here’s what advisors are telling their clients.

🔹 Market moves. Despite another interest rate hike by the Fed, stocks surged on Thursday and Friday. Overall, the S&P 500 has gained more than 1% after each of the Fed’s last four meetings (all of which have included rate hikes). Here’s an explanation of why.

🔹 Say what? In another logic-defying move, mortgage rates declined from 5.54% to 5.22% after the Fed’s announced rate hike. This marks a continued downward trend over the past few weeks after 30-year rates briefly touched 6% in mid-June. However, experts don’t believe we’re out of the woods just yet.
