extracting happiness from common things.”

And more…

The First Sip

David Squillante and Doran Smith were in Barcelona on a honeymoon last month when they became instant heroes.

The Rhode Island couple was on their way to tour a park in the city when they saw a group of women frantically huddled around a doorway.

Thick smoke was wafting out.

“I saw a flame coming out of the doorway, next to the door that these women had come out of,” David said. “So, I said ‘Oh my God there’s a fire.’”

It’s unclear what happened next…

Whether it was pure instinct or they gave it some thought…

The honeymooners rushed inside the building – not knowing whether it was an office building, apartment, or storefront – and followed one of the women down a hallway into a large room.

While neither David nor Doran knew any Spanish, they instantly found themselves communicating an almost “universal” language with the women of the building.

It didn’t take but a few seconds and they realized where they were

The building was a nursery – and the room they found themselves in was full of babies.

“Instinct took over,” David recalls.

“I found myself looking at 15, 20 babies sleeping, and immediately just kind of lined everyone up and we started grabbing them, putting them into the crib.”

Doran says they were in there maybe 10 minutes, but it felt like seconds.

And here’s the most amazing part…

After the impromptu rescue mission, the couple continued on to their previously planned park tour and enjoyed the rest of their honeymoon.

Now back home, David says he’s exploring the possibility of becoming a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Bristol, Rhode Island.

If you’re serious about scaling your business, you have to learn how to multiply yourself.

In other words, get good at delegating, outsourcing, and handing off repeatable tasks.

This allows you to focus on the big ones…like sales.

But if you’ve ever struggled with knowing how to explain processes or show an assistant how to do something, you may have thrown in the towel and thought…

“It’s not worth the trouble – I’ll just do it myself.”

If you’ve ever found it difficult to delegate for fear that it won’t get done properly, I’m going to show you a neat little tool that might just change your mind.

It’s called Scribe.

This useful tool automatically creates how-to guides with screenshots, instructions, and clicks.

Simply go through a process – like submitting an application – and the software will turn it into a step-by-step PDF with screenshots.

You can then send this document to any new hire – including a virtual assistant – and they can use the PDF as a manual to follow along.

Another alternative is to use a screen recording tool like Loom to allow someone to watch you complete the process in real-time.

☕  TL;DR: Make delegating redundant tasks easy with this app.

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

As an advisor, one of the best things you have going for you is the fact that you’re a real-life person. You’re a human.

And in a world of software, automation, and Robo-Advisors…humans matter!

People want to work with people – not big brands, collectives, or complex software.

Prospects want to work with YOU.

So here’s my suggestion…

Stop using what I call the “Corporate We” in your USP, website content, emails, etc.

Or, as an English teacher might say, put an end to “first person plural” and start using “first person singular.”

That means using more I, me, my, etc.

You should also use as much second person voice (i.e. you) as possible.

For example…

SAY THIS: I can help you develop a retirement strategy using my Investment Analysis Blueprint.

NOT: We help people develop retirement strategies using our Investment Analysis Blueprint.

This sounds so simple that you might be inclined to ignore it.

But trust me on this: Details like this matter.

People connect with people.

Do away with the “Corporate We” and focus on “I” and “you” language.

You’re building a 1-to-1 relationship and tiny words like this matter.

☕  TL;DR: The 1 word you’re probably using in your marketing (but should immediately eliminate).
