The children’s telephone hotline, called “Peptoc”, was started by a pair of art teachers in Healdsburg, CA and has quickly become a nationwide sensation.

Since launching in February, the hotline now receives an average of 9,000 calls per hour.

Jessica Martin, one of the teachers who launched the hotline, says the childlike innocence and sincerity is what attracts people.

Callers include everyone from cancer patients in hospitals to seniors in nursing homes.

“Adults support children, but we don’t really celebrate how much they support us,” Martin says.

“And to be able to be comforted by them gives us great hope that maybe we’re all going to be okay.”

Go head, call 707-998-8410 now… (promise it’s worth it).

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

A survey conducted by the American Psychological Association reveals people are more stressed than ever.

Thanks to the pandemic, rising inflation, supply chain issues, and a host of other problems, 48% of people report elevated stress levels.

And according to consumer psychologists, this should change the way we advertise and market to prospects.

As advisors, we can’t use the same messaging with a stressed consumer as we can a calm and poised prospect.

Keep the following in mind:

  • Avoid shock value. Hyper-stressed prospects relate shocking ads and headlines to negative emotions, which hurts your chances of building a relationship.

  • Reduce choices. Overwhelmed prospects will walk away when presented with lots of choices. Don’t highlight every single product/service you offer. Lead with just one or two primary ones.

  • Validate emotions. Whether it’s a LinkedIn message, email, or website copy, acknowledge that people are stressed and frustrated. It goes a long way.

☕  TL;DR: People are stressed; make sure your marketing reflects this.

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹 Rate hike. On Wednesday, the Fed approved a 0.25 percentage point rate hike, the first since December 2018. Officials say there will be six more in 2022. Here’s how it could impact mortgages.

🔹 Fin-Lit. An encouraging new report shows more states (47/50) and school systems are adding personal finance in their education standards than ever before. At the same time, the emphasis on economics is declining.

🔹 Open for payment. In response to the invasion, PayPal has announced that it will now allow peer-to-peer payments to and from Ukraine. The move is designed to make things easier for Ukrainian families receiving financial support from abroad. Bravo, PayPal.
