Let’s dig in…

Random acts of kindness go a long way.

Just ask Theresa Hunt and her 16-year-old son, Xavier, who has autism.

Earlier this month, the pair were shopping at the Brickyard Mall in Chicago.

They stopped inside a shoe store to look around.

Xavier’s eyes immediately lit up when he saw a crisp pair of red and white Air Jordans.

But they were too expensive.

It killed Theresa to have to say no, but she encouraged him to pick out a different (less expensive) pair of sneakers.

The two sat down in the aisle and talked about how well Xavier was doing in school.

Maybe sometime soon they could find a way to buy the Jordans, Theresa told her son.

It was at that moment that a kind stranger overheard the conversation and stepped in.

He asked if he could buy the Air Jordans for Xavier.

The man paid for the shoes, handed them to Xavier, and wished him well with the rest of his school year before leaving.

“To receive a blessing out of nowhere like that – it just feels good. It gives me hope,” Theresa said.

Theresa’s only regret is that she didn’t get the man’s name…

But isn’t that the beauty of this story?

In an age of look-at-me social media posts, this stranger wasn’t seeking any praise or fame.

He simply saw a need that he could meet and stepped in to help.

What need can you meet this week?

1 Caffeinated Neurohack

Most of us get exercise in the morning before work or in the evening after work.

But did you know that exercise in the middle of the day could actually be more beneficial – particularly if you struggle with focus?

Research shows that exercise changes your brain functioning – both over the long-term and in isolated moments.

Increased blood flow – combined with surges in adrenaline and cortisol – allow your brain to focus more easily for up to 2 hours AFTER exercise.

And here’s the coolest part…

You don’t need to run five miles or attend a 60-minute spin class.

As little as 2 MINUTES of exercise does the trick.

You can even drop down in your office and do some pushups, planks, or wall squats.

☕  TL;DR: Need to quickly boost your focus at work? Get 2 minutes of exercise.

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

Harvard Business School research shows people who ask more questions are more likable.

And people tend to buy more from people they actually like.

As an advisor, you can infer that asking more questions and being more conversational on sales calls will help you close more deals.

Here are some good sales conversation starters to try:

  • How long have you lived in [Michigan]?
  • When did you start working in [healthcare]?
  • What do you like most about your role?
  • What does your typical day look like?
  • What’s one of your goals for [2022]?
  • What’s something you’re looking forward to this weekend?

If you struggle with starting sales calls, keep a sticky note of these questions on your desk and use them to keep the convo flowing!

☕  TL;DR: Want to close more sales? Ask more questions.

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹 Let’s go for a hike. Stocks continued to struggle over the past week as the Fed indicated further policy tightening. Officials are discussing a half-point rate hike in the near future.

🔹 Bad binge. Netflix deals with its first subscriber drop in more than a decade, sending share prices plummeting by 35% overnight (wiping out over $50 billion market cap). To make matters worse for subscribers, a crackdown may soon be coming on accounts with shared passwords.

🔹 Stripe-coin. The fintech giant, Stripe, just jumped into the world of crypto by adding a feature that allows Twitter users to be paid in stablecoin. This is Stripe’s first major push into crypto since the company dropped support for Bitcoin several years ago.
