☕Sunday Brew [Feb. 07 2021]: Do I have your attention?

“The unexamined life is not worth living.”

-Socrates

The First Sip

When Cemal Senturk was rushed off to the hospital, his white pooch named Boncuk trailed the ambulance the entire way.

Cemal was ushered inside and the pup waited…

And he waited some more…

He waited all day until Cemal’s daughter picked the fluffy white dog up from Medical Park Hospital and placed him under “house arrest.”

But the next morning, Boncuk darted out the door and returned to the hospital in search of his human.

This went on day after day after day.

“The dog comes here every day at around 9 in the morning, waits until the evening, and then leaves. She never comes inside, but waits for her owner outside,” a hospital guard explained.

For six days, Boncuk faithfully waited by the entrance.

He even became a bit of a mascot for the hospital staff.

Doctors and nurses would visit with food and water.

Cemal would occasionally catch glimpses of his best friend from his hospital room window.

And then…after nearly a week…Cemal was discharged.

And guess who was faithfully waiting at the door for a sloppy-kissed reunion?

Tail wagging…tongue spilling out of his mouth…paws prancing…Boncuk and Cemal were reunited at last.

Just goes to show that “dogged” determination is a real thing!

And if you have a furry friend like me, then you know what it feels like to have a loyal companion you can always count on.

It’s amazing how a four-legged friend can fill such a massive part of our hearts.

As they say…we really don’t deserve them!

I’d love to know, what’s the most loyal thing your puppy has ever done for you?

1 Caffeinated Neurohack

Do you ever get butterflies in your stomach before a big presentation, webinar, or sales call?

Even if you’ve been in the industry for decades, it’s totally normal to get jitters from time to time.

And the more you have on your plate any given week, the more easily stress can weigh you down.

But if you have the right tools in your belt, you can quickly diffuse these stressful moments and find the peace you need to tackle whatever is next.

One of the best ways to relax your mind and body is to do a quick breathing exercise.

The Abdominal Breathing Technique is particularly effective at bringing your heart rate down and helping you focus. It goes like this:

  1. Place one hand on your chest.
  2. Place your other hand on your belly.
  3. Take a deep breath in through your nose.
  4. Let your diaphragm inflate just enough to feel a slight stretch.
  5. Slowly exhale.

Doing this 6-10 times over the course of a minute will bring you back into equilibrium!

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

According to a study published in the journal Brain Research, when people hear their own name, a unique reaction occurs in their brain.

The researchers behind the study discovered that hearing your own name (as opposed to someone else’s name) triggers significant brain activation in:

  • The middle frontal cortex
  • The middle and superior temporal cortex
  • The cuneus

In other words, most of your brain lights up when you hear your name!

And that makes it a veryyy powerful tool to use in marketing and sales.

So, FNAME, make it a point to drop a prospect or customer’s name more often when you’re engaging with them.

Whether it’s in an email, LinkedIn message, phone call, or Zoom meeting, using their name with greater frequency will force them to engage at a neurological level.

Do This First Thing Monday AM

At last Wednesday’s Virtual Advisor Power Hour, I had the privilege of having renowned sales coach Lloyd Lofton be our guest.

And while he delivered many GOLDEN strategies for overcoming common sales objections, there was one thing that really stuck out to me.

At the very beginning, right before he gave us the goods, he said something to those of us who were in attendance that struck me.

He said: “Don’t listen to rule something out. Listen to rule something in. Just walk away with one thing.”

As you enter into a brand new week, I want to encourage you to stay focused.

Don’t become overwhelmed by everything that’s happening around you.

Whether it’s a presentation, sales call, or a conversation with a friend, make it a point to just walk away with one thing.

Quality insights always outperform quantity of insights.

Filter through the muck to find the gold, my friend!
