The First Sip
Tony Atkins was tasked by his news station with covering Hurricane Ian last week in Orlando.
But what he thought would be a short TV spot standing on elevated ground in front of some flooding turned into a rescue mission.
Shortly before recording, he noticed a woman in her car waving for help.
The woman, who was a nurse, had attempted to drive through the flooding early in the morning so as not to be late to her shift.
Unfortunately, the water was deeper than she anticipated and her car became submerged.
Atkins waded through the waist-high waters and eventually reached her vehicle.
“She handed me her purse. I just told her to get out,” Atkins recalls.
“She got out through the window. I thought it’d be best to carry her on my back. She got on my back. She asked for help one time, and then I got her to safety.”
The woman was incredibly grateful for Atkins’ decision to risk his own life to save hers.
“I’m still a little shaky, but I know God had him in place just when I needed him. I’m so thankful he was willing to help me and not just ignore me! I really appreciate the love he showed me! He will never be forgotten!”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all members of Shift Nation who have been impacted by the hurricane in the Southeast! Stay safe!

If you’ve been around Shift Nation for any time at all, you know our mission…
To help 10,000 insurance and financial advisors 2X their businesses and take an extra 100 days off per year.
While most people want to focus on the DOUBLING their business half of the equation, I think the latter half is actually more important.
If you can get to a point where you’re able to take off an extra 100 days per year, it’ll improve almost every area of your life:
- Physical health
- Spiritual life
- Relationships
- Hobbies
But, perhaps most importantly, it has a significant impact on your mental health.
You might not be at a point where you can take off an extra 5-8 days per month, but I’d encourage you to start with one.
Taking a “mental health day” at least once per month can change your life.
A mental health day is a day where you completely disconnect from work, get away from screens, and focus on yourself.
Exercise, in particular, is shown to be as effective as medication in treating mental health issues.
Getting outside has a measurable calming effect on the human body.
Creative expression – like journaling or drawing – eliminates stress and sparks greater satisfaction.
Take a mental health day and I guarantee you won’t regret it!
☕ TL;DR: Take at least 1 mental health day per month for better health!

🔹 Google It. Analysts are able to look at Google search trends and tell when retail investors are coming in and out of the market. Judging by recent search trends for “Down Jones,” “Apple,” and “Tesla,” curiosity over stock prices has returned to pre-pandemic levels.
🔹 Recession vibes. Vanguard says there’s a 65% chance of a recession, while 80% of financial advisors believe we’re already in a recession/will be soon. Here’s one financial journalist’s advice for people. Agree or disagree?
🔹 Costco is for the people. Inflation? What inflation? Costco’s CFO says their $1.50 hot dog and soda combo will remain at that price point “forever.” While other Costco food court items have seen recent price bumps, the hot dog combo is maintaining its mythical low-cost status.
