Friday In Review Exercise

“Glory lies in the attempt to reach one’s goal and not in reaching it.”
– Mahatma Ghandi

Happy Friday!

At the beginning of the week, you set goals for the days that followed.

Let’s see how things stacked up!

Weekly Review Exercise

Pull out some paper, grab a pen, and write this down…

When you write things out by hand, you build more trigger points in your brain for the information you’re recording because you use so many more complex processes to encode it.

Handwriting also forces you to slow down and carefully consider the information in order to accurately write it, and that focus etches the information more deeply into your memory.

Step 1: Wins

What’s going really well for you?

Any wins (small or big) that stood out?

Step 2: Tasks

What tasks were not completed last week?

Recommit to complete these tasks next week.

What actions will you take to ensure your week is productive?

Step 3: Key Learnings

What have you learned this week?

Write down at least 1 breakthrough and how you’ll use it next week.

Step 4: Next Week

What actions will you take to make sure you’re more productive next week?

A Marketing Parable

A classic Chinese Proverb goes a little like this…

A hardworking farmer and his son farm their land with the help of a horse, who makes it possible for them to plough their fields. One day, the horse runs away, and everyone who hears about it comes over making a big fuss about how unlucky the farmer is. The farmer simply responds, “Maybe.”

The next day, the horse comes back leading five more wild horses to the farm – this means the farmer now has six times his original capacity to farm the fields and provide for his family. All the neighbours exclaim about how lucky the farmer is. The farmer simply says, “Maybe.”

A few days later, the farmer’s son breaks one of his legs badly while trying to train one of the wild horses. The townsfolk are worried sick, going on about the farmer’s terrible luck and how hard it will be for him to farm the land by himself. The farmer simply says, “Maybe.”

Weeks later, while the son is still recovering from the broken leg, the national army arrives to conscript all the young, able-bodied men. Because his leg is broken, the farmer’s son is not taken. The villagers are amazed at the farmer’s great luck and how happy he must be to have his son safe at home with him. And the farmer once again simply says, “Maybe.

What does that have to do with lead generation?

Outcome Independence

The moral of the story is that you CANNOT predict future events.

One seemingly negative outcome can just as easily become a positive outcome so long as you persevere and keep a clear, cool head.

The key is to keep pushing forward without assigning emotional value to the events you come up against.

If a lead generation tactic isn’t working for you, test and tweak until it does, instead of giving up after one attempt.

If you’ve made multiple solid attempts at a particular lead generation strategy and it hasn’t borne fruit for you, pivot into a similar but new strategy where you can use what you’ve learned from your failures to “fail forward.”

One Response

  1. Love this story! Encourages a PUSH! mindset. That PUSH! mindset is the only mindset that will lead to endurance
and success in this industry. Its a mindset that will pick an agent up when failure and discouragement is pulling at
the coat tails, and saying “Why are you still here this isn’t working for you?” Agent Response should be: “Maybe!” Think I am going to have my 5 am coffee with you..at least 5 times weekly! Thank you!
