☕ Advisor Sunday Brew: grandpa texting me?

“The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.”

Hey Sunday Brewers!

I can’t magically make you a morning person, but I do have some tips for making your AMs a little easier!

Plus, I want to show you a simple trick for increasing email open rates (that doesn’t involve subject lines).

Also, there’s a special announcement about an opportunity I have for you this week.

It’s all inside!

The First Sip

A 29-year-old woman recently documented the heartwarming “sleepover” she had with her 92-year-old grandfather.

It all started when Megan Elizabeth’s grandpa, who is sick and lives alone, sent her the following text:

“Hi Megan it’s grandpa. Would you like to come over and have a sleepover? I haven’t been feeling well and miss you. We can order food and watch a mystery show. Love, grandpa.”

Megan was more than happy to say yes and even offered to grab some things for him at the store.

The two ate strawberry ice cream and watched his favorite black-and-white TV show.

After dinner, Megan said her grandpa “made my bed how he used to make it, when I was little with my favorite doll of my grandma’s…and gave me a flashlight ‘in case I got scared.’”

While her grandpa is sick and doesn’t have much time left, Megan is soaking up as many of these nights as she can.

“I believe in love and loyalty because of this man. He is my hero.”

Ever wondered how people consistently wake up early in the morning and actually enjoy doing it?

It’s not that some people are magically morning people and others aren’t.

The secret is actually pretty simple: Make your mornings as frictionless as possible.

When you’re intentional about planning your mornings, you no longer dread getting out of bed.

Here are some tips:

  • Wake up 20 minutes earlier. Use this time to savor a quiet house. Drink a cup of coffee, read, journal… you choose!
  • Use an automatic coffee maker. If you’re a coffee drinker, get an automatic coffee maker and set it up the night before.
  • Set your to-do list the night before. Before going to bed, create your to-do list with MITs (most important tasks). When you wake up, you’ll know exactly what has to be done that day.
  • Have your clothes laid out. This eliminates at least one choice you have to make in the AM (which preserves your mental energy).

I’m curious…is there something you do to make your mornings easier?

Reply to this email and let me know!

☕  TL;DR: Do these 4 things to make waking up early easier!

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

There are three factors that play into whether or not a prospect opens up any email you send them.

The first is the subject line (which we spend a lot of time talking about around here).

The second is the preview text.

And the third is the sender name.

The sender name is basically the “From Name” – it appears next to the subject line and tells the prospect who the email is coming from.

Here’s a quick pro tip: Don’t use your company name

Use your personal name instead.

It can increase open rates by 15% to 35%

However, we always recommend A/B testing different options to see what works best.

Other options include “[First Name] @ [Company]” or “[First Name] From [Company].”

☕  TL;DR: Increase email open rates by changing your “sender” name.

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹 Sell-off continues. Stocks saw a sharp fall this week on the news of a half-point rate increase by The Fed. Expectations are that more rate increases will follow in the coming months, as inflation hits its highest level since the ‘80s.

🔹 Automated tax returns? Brand new research shows as many as 73 million tax returns could be auto-filled and filed automatically (covering 48% of taxpayers). Authors of the study note pre-populated returns are most accurate for low- and moderate-income taxpayers who take the standard deduction.

🔹 Women at work. Roughly 65% of last month’s US job gains went to women, yet they still lag behind men in the economic recovery of the pandemic. There are still 1 million fewer women working now than in February 2020.
