☕ Advisor Sunday Brew: Shower thoughts 🚿

“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”

Hey Sunday Brewers!

Let’s discover how to coax your brain into giving you more creative thoughts

Clever (and creative) ways to elevate any marketing copy or design

And a few shocking statistics about LinkedIn (you need to watch this)…

But first, a quick story about the best thing I saw all week

The First Sip

When you think “valedictorian graduation speech,” what comes to mind?

Charismatic delivery?

A witty joke or two for good measure?

Recycled quotes from famous dead people?

If you’re anything like me, you have an idea of what a valedictorian speech is supposed to sound like.

I bet you don’t expect it to sound like this 👇

But I’d challenge you to find a graduation speech more inspiring or rejuvenating than this one.

Elizabeth Bonker is the valedictorian’s name, and she has non-speaking autism that requires her to communicate solely by typing.

“God gave you a voice. Use it,” Elizabeth told the graduating class of 529 students.

“And no, the irony of a non-speaking autistic encouraging you to use your voice is not lost on me. Because if you can see the worth in me, then you can see the worth in everyone you meet.”

Elizabeth’s special way with words goes far beyond her speech. She’s also an accomplished young poet and author.

Plus, she’s founded her own nonprofit organization to help others with autism get the access they need to essential communication tools.

Around here, that’s what we call an #APlayer.

Congrats to Elizabeth and all Class of 2022 Graduates!

Ever wondered why your best ideas come to you at the strangest times?

Like when you’re in the shower?

Well, there’s actually a scientific explanation for it.

Dopamine – one of the body’s “happy hormones” – is an important ingredient in creativity.

The more dopamine is released, the more creative potential you have in any given moment.

Different events can trigger the release of dopamine.

Exercise is a common one.

Spending time with your dog does it, as well.

Even pictures of babies or cute animals can encourage the release of dopamine.

Here’s one of my dog… chilling in true Sunday fashion👇😴

Boom! Free dopamine hit 🥳

And…taking a warm shower does it, too!

If you’ve had a long day and you’re tired, stressed, or overwhelmed…

…these few moments of physical relaxation, combined with the release of dopamine, encourage your mind to wander – in a good way!

So next time you’re in the shower…be sure to keep a notepad on the counter nearby.

☕  TL;DR: Need creative ideas? Take a warm shower.

Marketing Psychology Quick Hit

Are you familiar with color psychology?

It’s the study of how colors impact emotions and feelings, which subsequently influence how we respond to situations and environments.

Color psychology is a huge focus of interior design.

BUT…it’s also an integral component of marketing and branding.

Research shows that colors have a direct impact on subconscious decision making. For example:

Red → Urgency

Blue → Trust

Black → Luxury

Purple → Calming

Yellow → Optimism

Orange → Friendly

Next time you design a piece of content, choose a graphic for an email newsletter, or redesign your LinkedIn profile…consider how your color selection may influence prospects and clients.

☕  TL;DR: Use color to convey specific emotions in marketing.

Weekly Industry Catch-Up

🔹 Bear territory. It’s been a tough slog for the S&P 500 thus far in 2022. More sell-offs happened this week as Wall Street braces for what could be the first extended bear market in over a decade.

🔹 Housing slowdown? Could it really be? Is the housing market finally starting to cool? The raw data suggests it could. Existing home sales fell in April to the lowest level since the start of the pandemic. Still, prices remain 14.8% higher year-over-year.

🔹 Bitcoin bust? Bitcoin has been on a wild ride over the past few months. Count Robert Kiyosaki among those who believe this “crash” represents a time to buy. Agree? Disagree? Shoot me a reply and let me know.
